This sign is at the intersection of N.C. 42 and N.C. 96 South, north of Selma. (My husband spotted the signs and took these photos.) The sign is pointing the way to a country store called Popeye’s, which you can see in the second photo. The top sign neglects the apostrophe in Popeye’s but puts one in miles. This is the kind of mistake I just don’t get. I still don’t understand why folks think that plurals are made with apostrophes.
